Romania’s Sandra Izbasa, reigning 2008 Olympic floor champion, smiles on the podium as she receives her gold medal in the 2012 vault event final. Izbasa, the last competitor up, earned her gold after a surprising fall from the reigning world champion, McKayla Maroney. Izbasa hugged Maroney after her win, whispering a few words of encouragement to her before tearily accepting the gold medal for herself and for her country.
